What is the deal with Forza auto-upgrading cars when you purchase them for a series.
It makes them damn-near un-driveable!
As much as I love the gameplay, the overall game is pretty terrible...

The criticisms that I have heard about Forza 5 have made me care less and less about missing out on it and the Xbone. I've got Asseto Corsa on the PC to tide me over for a bit, and Project CARS will come soon.
This, of course, assumes I stop being addicted to Fire Emblem: Awakening and play anything else.

Forza 5's entire interface is fucking terrible; it's just a shame that the actual racing's good enough to make me put up with it. To get around the auto-upgrade thing, I open up a series, check which cars are available and what class they'll be running in, and then go to the regular 'Buy' interface to actually get the one I want. I mean, my own cack handed upgrading isn't much better than what the game forces on you, but at least I get to decide what to get.

Yeah it really isn't that good. I spent a few weeks playing it, then I put it down since mid-december.
Now I am remembering why I stopped playing lol
The driving aspect of the game is great, but the overall package is just so rushed feeling. It seems incomplete with how the payout mechanics work, the series grind on, the menus between races are bad, etc.
It seems like they focused on gameplay/graphics, but forgot to include simple things like the ability to tune your vehicle between races, and to buy "stock" vehicles for a series

You're not wrong, I'm loving the driving which they always do well, but there are some aspects which are seriously questionable.

That bothers me too, so what I do is see the available cars in that series (back when i raced the series, now all I really do is the ABC'S online), then go and buy it separately in the "buy cars" menu. Then put my own upgrades on them. Much better.

I also LOATH the money-grab that this game is. They blew a really good thing trying out this pay-to-play thing. I really believe that is why the track selection is so small - they are going to start releasing tracks as paid dlc.
"Press Y to level faster" button after every race raises my blood pressure. Also, $50 for a "DLC Pass". No thanks...

Yup exactly. I occasionally forget to back out and just purchase a car in series. Then I spin-rewind-spin-rewind-spin-rewind-throw controller lol

It also makes it really hard to compare stock car stats the way it upgrades as you view it. ugh.

Yeah, it feels like a phone game.
And it KILLS me that you can't quit a series immediately after completing a race, you have to sit through another long load screen for the next race, THEN you can quit back to the menu. And if you go back to that series, it loads the END of the last race you completed and has to do the load transition you already sat through once...again. Ugh.

That doesn't bother me nearly as much since its optional and I just ignore it.
